संक्षेप में भावों का सार (Chart Style):

Avastha (Age States of Planets Based on Degrees)

In Vedic astrology, a planet's condition is determined not solely by its sign or house.

The degree of the planet within the sign also indicates its strength, maturity, or readiness to produce results.

This condition is referred to as Avastha, which signifies the state or stage of the planet.

There are five primary Avasthas categorized by age.

The traditional classification is as follows:

Balavastha — the stage of infancy

Kumaravastha — the stage of youth

Yuvavastha — the stage of adulthood 12-18 Degrees

Vriddhavastha — the stage of old age

Mritavastha — the stage of death or decline

However, these classifications are not universally applicable across all signs.

The Avastha is influenced by whether the sign is odd (such as Aries, Gemini, Leo) or even (such as Taurus, Cancer, Virgo).

Identical degrees can represent different stages depending on the nature of the sign.

Degrees of Exaltation and Debilitation

In Vedic astrology, each planet has one sign where it feels most powerful. This is called exaltation. Each planet also has a sign where it feels weakest. This is called debilitation. But that is not the full truth. What really matters is the exact degree where the planet becomes exalted or debilitated.

A planet becomes fully exalted only when it reaches a very specific degree inside its sign. Before or after that degree, the strength may be less. The same applies to debilitation. The weakness is at its highest at one exact degree. If a planet is far from that degree, its weakness may not be too strong.

Below is the list of the exact degrees of exaltation and debilitation for each planet:

  • Sun is exalted at 10 degrees Aries
Sun is debilitated at 10 degrees Libra
  • Moon is exalted at 3 degrees Taurus
Moon is debilitated at 3 degrees Scorpio
  • Mars is exalted at 28 degrees Capricorn
Mars is debilitated at 28 degrees Cancer
  • Mercury is exalted at 15 degrees Virgo
Mercury is debilitated at 15 degrees Pisces
  • Jupiter is exalted at 5 degrees Cancer
Jupiter is debilitated at 5 degrees Capricorn
  • Venus is exalted at 27 degrees Pisces
Venus is debilitated at 27 degrees Virgo
  • Saturn is exalted at 20 degrees Libra
Saturn is debilitated at 20 degrees Aries

When a planet sits at its exact exaltation degree, its positive power is at its highest. It brings success, clarity, protection, and good results in that area of life. The planet is confident and calm. It performs its duties without resistance.

But when a planet sits at its exact debilitation degree, it loses its natural strength. It struggles to give good results. Even if placed in a good house, its energy becomes weak, confused, or misused. The person may face delays, mistakes, or suffering in the matters ruled by that planet.

It is also important to know that exaltation is not always a blessing. If the planet is exalted but placed in a bad house or combust by the Sun, it may not give the expected results. On the other hand, a debilitated planet sitting in a strong house may still help the native.
